Product Recalls Highlight Dangers of Defective Goods

Sep 20, 2023 by Dodson & Hooks, APLC

We depend upon many different products every single day. From waking up in the morning to going to sleep at night, many of us interact with things that are designed to make our lives easier. They have become such an integral part of our lives that we rarely think twice about these products, that is, until something goes wrong.
Unfortunately, not all products work they way they are intended to work. There have been countless stories of defective products causing serious injuries to people in Louisiana and throughout the rest of the country.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is the government agency in charge of recalling defective products and providing information to the public regarding these recalls.

Recently, two noteworthy recalls were announced by the agency after widespread reports of defects by consumers. The first is especially important to residents of Louisiana. With the year-round nice weather, many people have taken up golfing as a hobby and use a cart to get around the golf course. E-Z-Go brand golf carts, Shuttles and Off-Road Utility Vehicles were recalled by the company due to a defective ball joint that may cause a lack of control over steering. There have been 71 reported examples of the ball joint failing in these vehicles.

The second recall is focused on a serious defect that could occur even when a product is not in use. Hamilton Beach classic chrome 2-slice toasters may suddenly start warming up soon after being plugged in. This means the toasters may start working even if the level has not been pulled. At least five consumers have reported this happening to their toasters.

For information about these and other recalls, visit the CPSC website. If you have been injured by a defective product, contact an experienced personal injury attorney in your area to understand the options that may be available to you. It will be important to discuss your case as soon as possible, as any delay could prevent recovery.
