Richard J. (Jerry) Dodson

Richard Dodson 2 Upon graduation, Mr. Dodson began private law practice in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and also began to teach law at The Southern University Law Center, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Mr. Dodson’s commitment to legal education continues today with current courses in International Admiralty and Maritime Personal Injury the Tulane Summer School Program in Greece, commonly lecturing on topics of international shipping interests and foreign seaman claims in particular.

Mr. Dodson is admitted to practice in all Louisiana State and Federal Courts, is a member of the Federal First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth and Eveventh Circuit Courts of Appeals as well as the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Dodson has been admitted pro hac vice in California, Texas, Washington, Florida, New York, Alabama, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii. Professional Memberships include the American Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Baton Rouge Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association, the Maritime Law Association, and the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute.

Mr. Dodson has published extensively in the area of foreign seaman claims, international admiralty law, international jurisdictional issues and most recently has authored the United States Legal Chapter for the International Transport Workers Federation’s Newest Publication entitled Seafarers’ Rights Oxford University Press, 2005.

Jerry resides in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is married to Gloria Middleton Dodson and is the father of a 20 year old son, Richard.
